Today we're going to go over the two opposite theme options for events!

First up, we've got the vintage (or antique) theme! Here are the key points to go along with this theme:

  • A vintage theme may sound similar to a traditional or rustic theme but in reality it’s more of an antique style.

  • It would involve lots of antique-looking decor including, but not limited to, weathered wooden decor, antique dish-ware and flatware, antique equipment (such as typewriters or other “romantic” style equipment), and antique lighting.

  • If you choose this theme you may also think about including vintage styles in bridal party clothing and/or adornments as well as wedding dress if it applies to your event.

  • If you are able, a classic car would be a great touch to your vintage theme; either as a photo prop or the vehicle that you and your spouse are transported in.

  • Vintage weddings can be thrown at any venue! Of course, an old style ballroom with lots of beautiful antique chandeliers would add to the theme.

As you can see these show the different elements that I mentioned above! I love the use of lace, the vintage vehicles, and especially the use of antique silver and gold in the little details. For our wedding we used antique lace that I found at an antique shop local to where I grew up. My wedding dress was also a lot of lace! I worked a wedding where they used all antique plates for their reception dinner that they had collected from various thrift stores, antique shops, and from family members. It was such a great addition to their simple but vintage fall wedding.

Second up today, a modern theme! Here are the key points to go along with a modern theme:

  • If you are attracted to straight lines, clean design, and bold colors then a modern theme is where you will want to focus your attention for decor - and even dressing styles.

  • Geometric shapes are very popular when it comes to a modern theme.

  • Colors are often very contrasted. Good examples are the classic black and white, gold with any darker shade (popular ones include maroon, navy, and green). Sparkles are quite common in modern themed events, especially when it comes to attire.

  • Decor can be anything you dream of! From unique to classic and obscure to more simple. Check out Pinterest for some especially interesting inspiration.

  • Modern themes can be executed anywhere but I will say that it would be easier to stay within the lines (pun intended) if you were to host your modern themed event at an already modern themed venue. This might be a chic restaurant or bar, a modern ballroom, or a simple tented event (especially with a clear top tent!)

As you can see, lots of shapes, lots of bold! But you can also combine it with aspects of other themes.

What do you think of these two? Would you use one exclusively or combine it with another theme?

Happy Planning!!
